Resident refuses to hand over tigers to the authority

AKARTA: A Tangerang resident, who has a pair of tigers in his house, said he would not bow to the Forestry Ministry's request to hand over his tigers, saying the department had misidentified his tigers.

"Mine are Bengal tigers not Sumatran tigers," Kusbanu Hadi Soemarto, who has kept the tigers for more than 20 years, said Friday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

On Thursday, officers from the Forestry Ministry visited Kusbanu, ordering him to hand over his tigers to the government, claiming they were rare species and protected by the law.
