n response to Magda Safrina's article titled "US-Indonesia economic ties, in search of synergy", (the Post, March 29), I am pleased to highlight the recent launch of the US-Indonesia Geothermal Development Initiative.
This initiative is designed to utilize Indonesia's vast geothermal resources while fostering partnerships between our governments and private sectors - a series of win-win relationships.
As an initial effort, the US Trade and Development Agency is pleased to have partnered with PT Star Energy Geothermal Halmahera and AECOM USA to advance the development of a 370-megawatt geothermal power plant on the island of Halmahera.
In addition, USTDA is working with PT Indonesia Power and Raser Technologies (Utah, USA) to evaluate the commer-cial viability of a 300-megawatt geothermal power plant in West Java.
These programs and new efforts to be launched throughout the year are designed to advance President Obama's goal of strengthening the broader US-Indonesia partnership.
This is one tangible example of the efforts underway to advance clean energy deployment and foster inclusive economic development.
