AKARTA: The ongoing Judicial Commission's review of the trial into the 2004 murder of human rights campaigner Munir has found indications that the judges may have breached codes of ethics.
If the allegations are proven, their controversial acquittal of former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) deputy chief Muchdi Purwopranjono could be overturned and he would be retried.
"The original verdict didn't include the testimony of two key witnesses, Budi Santoso and As'ad," Judicial Commission expert Achmad Dardiri said at a discussion at the office of the National Commission for Human Rights in Jakarta on Friday.
He was referring to BIN agent Budi Santoso and BIN deputy director As'ad Said Ali.
Muchdi was acquitted of the murder of Munir on Dec. 31, 2008. Another defendant, Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Priyanto, was convicted of the killing and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
