UPANG: Udayana military chief Brig. Gen. Rachmat Budiyanto said themilitary would remain impartial in the upcoming elections in East NusaTenggara (NTT).

“Neutrality here means not taking sides by becoming a team member of either of the contesting candidates,” Rachmat said Wednesday.

Speaking at a handover of power ceremony for Military Resort Command 161 commander Wirasakti Kupang, Rachmat said each member of the TNI had to prioritize the interests of the nation and the state and not those of certain groups.

The province will see elections held in all of its eight regencies, which are East Sumba, West Sumba, North Timor Tengah, East Flores, Ruteng, West Manggarai, Sabu Raijua and Ngada.

Rachmat hoped the new installed commander of Wirasakti Col. I Dewa Ketut Siangan would be able take early preventive measures against threatening conflicts. — JP
