AKARTA: Low cost carrier Batavia Air has launched a new route from Jakarta to Banda Aceh with the maiden flight taking off on Wednesday, the airline’s public relations manager, Eddy Haryanto, said Thursday.
The daily flight leaves Jakarta at 8:30 a.m. via Medan before arriving at Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport in Banda Aceh at 12:20 p.m. The returning flight leaves for Jakarta via Medan at 12:55 p.m.
“Batavia Air’s service to Banda Aceh fulfills our dream of linking Indonesia’s westernmost province and easternmost province,” Eddy said in a statement.
“With its marine and tourism potentials, Banda Aceh is Batavia Air’s 39th destination.”
Aceh still has to develop its potentials, Eddy said, adding that the province also had a free port in Sabang as well as strategically located close to Malaysia and Thailand.
In addition to domestic routes, Batavia Air also serves Guangzhou in China, Kuching in Malaysia and Singapore with a total of more than 170 flights daily.
In addition to the Airbus A320, Batavia Air also operates Airbus A319 and A330 and Boeing 747-300 and 747-400 aircraft. — JP
