AKARTA: Jakarta police confiscated Thursday more than 100 weapons from hundreds of supporters of Jakarta’s soccer club Persija during a check conducted ahead of the kick-off of its Indonesian Super League match against PSM Makassar.
Deputy chief of traffic management unit at the City police’s traffic directorate, Comr. Gunawan, said the officers collected a total of 104 belts with metal clasps, four motorcycle chains, a dozen bamboo sticks and a bag containing pieces of rock.
He said the questioning of supporters was underway.
The seizure is the latest in a series of raids on soccer hooligans on their way to matches. — JP
