JAKARTA: The reputable Japanese monthly Foresight has listed Paramadina University rector Anies Baswedan as one of the 20 people likely to change the world in the next 20 years.
In its April edition, Foresight magazine published “20 people 20 years”, a list of the 20 figures predicted to catch people’s attention for their role in changing the world in the next two decades.
Anies, 41, was chosen alongside Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Venezuelan president Hugo Chaves, and British foreign minister David Miliband.
Foresight stated that Anies was one of Indonesia’s future leaders.
“Anies is a moderate Muslim who up to now, has not taken sides with any [political] parties,” Foresight wrote.
In a press statement from Paramadina University, Anies said his presence on the list showed the world was paying closer attention to Indonesia.
Anies has given speeches in several international forums in Tokyo, London, Copenhagen and Madrid. Anies will also speak in the Young Global Leaders Summit in Tanzania, Africa — JP
