Despite the controversy regarding cigarette product L.A. Lights sponsoring her first show in Jakarta, Clarkson entertained close to 3,400 fans at the Senayan Indoor Tennis complex in Jakarta.

Thursday’s show, which was part of her “All I Ever Wanted” Asian tour, eventually took place without sponsorship from the cigarette product.

Clarkson performed 20 songs in just two hours. Thousands of people danced to Clarkson’s tunes including All I Ever Wanted, I Do Not Hook Up and Miss Independent.

Clarkson was delighted to perform in front of her Indonesian fans. “I finally made it,” she said.

She then asked audiences to join her in an acoustic remake version of old hit That I Would Be Good originally performed by Alanis Morissette.

After the song ended, some of her fans yelled “Happy Birthday”, prompting Clarkson to chuckle a “thank you”. Clarkson turned 28 on April 24, or five days before her concert in the city.

The loudest shouts resonated around the concert venue when Clarkson presented her single Breakaway, with audience members singing along with her.

Breakaway became one of her most popular songs after it was featured in the soundtrack of teenage movie The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement starring Anne Hathaway in 2004.

The winner of the famous talent-contest American Idol’s first season later invited the audience to dance throughout the following disco remix song titled Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, a hit from Australian singer Kylie Minogue and the rhythmic rock song Never Again.

The Texas-born singer calmed fans’ adrenaline with a guitar performance of Just Missed the Train, Addicted and Behind These Hazel Eyes.

During a brief interval, Clarkson introduced her 21-member band she considers “her second family” to the audience.

The night became livelier as she invited audience participation for the chorus of I Want You.

“It’s super sweet,” she said as audience members attempted to reach the high notes of songs, Clarkson asked for them not strain themselves, saying “You’re gonna have no voice tomorrow.”

Because Of You was performed next, a song about a psychological problem one of her family member experienced. Clarkson said she wrote the lyrics when she was a child.

The 28-year old singer came from a broken-home family. Her parents divorced when she was 6 years old.

After Because of You, the visitors moved their bodies to Since U Been Gone and the single My Life Would S*ck Without You, her last song for the night.

Twenty-four-year-old Lova said she was satisfied with Clarkson’s overall performance.

“It was very cool. [The quality] of her voice was of the same high standard heard in her albums,” Lova said after the concert.

She admitted she was not Clarkson’s biggest fan but she knew most of her hits and Since You’ve Been Gone was her favorite.

“Clarkson has been the only successful winner of Idol so far,” she said.

After winning the competition in 2002, Clarkson successfully sold millions of copies around the world with her four albums: Thankful in 2003, Breakaway in 2004, My December in 2007 and All I Ever Wanted in 2009.

A fan of Clarkson, Patricia echoed Lova’s expression, saying the concert was “fabulous”.

“It was perfect. The band was great. Clarkson was spirited and I was dancing the whole time,” the 18-year-old said, confessing she owned every CD the singer had released.

“I really like Breakaway because it contains inspiring lyrics, which reflect her life experience,” she said.

Patricia added that she regarded Clarkson as her role model because she had shown beauty and a slim body were not always the most important factors in determining a singer’s pathway to success.

Music promoter from Java Musikindo Adrie Subono said he felt relieved after he saw how enthusiastic audience members were during the concert.

“The show was for all ages since not only adults but teenagers enjoyed it. It was a greatperformance,” he told journalists after the show.

He added his office had provided about 3,500 tickets but not all were sold because of the traffic congestion caused by Jakmania, soccer fans of Persija Jakarta, which held a match against PSM Makassar at Bung Karno stadium nearby the concert venue.

Prior to the show, he added, Clarkson had spent about three hours shopping for antique goods on Jl. Surabaya in Central Jakarta.

“She was warm in greeting some of her fans there,” he said.

He added that Clarkson had initially wanted to visit Bandung (West Java) and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (East Jakarta), but had to cancel because of severe traffic jams.

Clarkson is scheduled to perform in Manila, Seoul, Taipei and Macau this month.
