MBON, Maluku: A national television news correspondent was reportedlybeaten up Ambon District Court employees at a parking lot on Friday.

Juhri Samanery from SCTV, suffered wounds on his face and head after eight people physically assaulted him. A number of court employees were also seen chasing after reporters that usually cover news at the court.

The incident prompted protest from hundreds of journalists in Ambon, who approached the courthouse.
They were later involved in a clash with other court employees.

Police arrived at the scene and immediately secured the court’s entrance.

The incident ensued when local reporter Sherly Lootje Pattipawae, taking pictures during the trial, was reprimanded by judge Tengku Oyong, who was hearing a graft case.

Sherly then left the courtroom and told other journalists what had occurred.

A number of reporters then questioned Oyong before the fracas broke out and Juhri insisting they had never been prohibited from covering trials at Ambon District Court.

Juhri then left the courthouse, but was chased after by the court employees, who physically assaulted him. — JP
