ANDUNG, West Java: Muslim residents in Karasak subdistrict, Bandung, staged a protest Friday in front of an unfinished building on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta, which they claimed was an illegal church.

Protestor Yosep Solehudin, said the local Muslim residents had voiced their protest as the church had conducted its activities without their consent.

“They have used two houses as a church for 20 years without a permit and have now moved to a new building, but they only have a permit for an office,” Yosep told reporters on Friday.

The protest, which lasted for half an hour, took place peacefully. The protestors addressed the crowd in front of the concerned building and attached yellow banners with the slogan, “Karasak Muslim residents oppose church activities in our area”, on the fence. — JP
