The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) advised new Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and Deputy Finance Minister Anny Ratnawati to report their wealth to the KPK as soon as possible
he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) advised new Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and Deputy Finance Minister Anny Ratnawati to report their wealth to the KPK as soon as possible.
“We congratulate the newly appointed finance minister and his deputy and request that they fill out the state official report form,” KPK spokesman Johan Budi said Friday.
Agus, the president director of Bank Mandiri, Indonesia’s biggest bank by assets, replaces former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indra-wati, who will be taking up a post as World Bank managing director.
“The KPK also reminds former finance minister Mulyani to report her wealth before moving to the US,” KPK deputy chairman M. Jasin said.
Agus and Anny were officially inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace on Thursday. Sri Mulyani will fly to Washington, DC, on May 26 to start her new job.
“The law does not mention when these top-ranked government officials have to report their wealth to the KPK, but the administrative reforms ministerial decree, as well as the KPK decree, stipulates that the report must be submitted within three months of appointment, dismissal or resignation,” Johan said.
The 1999 Law on the Establishment of a State Free from Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism stipulates that state officials have to disclose their wealth before and after their tenure.
However the law does not set a deadline for officials to do so.
KPK data showed that as of Nov. 24, 2004, Sri Mulyani reported assets totaling Rp 2.12 billion (US$228,852). This grew to Rp 4.4 billion ($474,660) and $324,023 in foreign currency by Sept. 28, 2006.
Agus reported wealth of Rp 3.75 billion and $10,000 in foreign currency on May 1, 2001, and on Dec. 31, 2008, this had grown to Rp 32.4 billion and $788 in foreign currency. (JP/ipa)
