ANGERANG: Customs and excise officers have arrested a Singaporean, Da Costa Derrick Jackson, 24, for allegedly attempting to smuggle crystal methamphetamine worth Rp 4.1 billion (US$436,170) through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Bahaduri Wijayanta, the head of the customs office at the airport, said the suspect, who works as a freelance interior designer in Singapore, arrived at the airport on Monday evening aboard China Airlines flight CI-0679 from Hong Kong.
“When the luggage was opened, officers found two tea containers filled with 2,060 grams of crystal methamphetamine among a number of snack boxes in the luggage,” he said.
The suspect said he was asked by a Chinese man called Lee Ching, whom he became acquainted with during a vacation in Sichuan, China, to deliver the narcotics to Jakarta.
Lee Ching also provided Jackson with cash amounting to 1,000 yuan (US$1,468) and said if he managed to deliver the drugs to someone at the airport, he would give him a job and a pay him well. — JP
