ALEMBANG: Sriwijaya FC beat Persiwa Wamena 2-0 to win the home final of the Inter Island Cup (IIC) soccer tournament at the Jakabaring Palembang Stadium in South Sumatra on Sunday evening.
Sriwijaya’s South Korean imported striker Park Jung Hwan made the first goal in the first 20 minutes, while Budi Sudarsono secured the 2-0 victory at minute 62nd. Ten minutes later, Budi was red carded for hitting Persiwa defender Zeceviv.
The IIC is the preseason tournament for the Indonesian Super League (ISL), which will kick off on Sept. 29.
Sriwijaya coach Ivan Kolev of Bulgaria said he would re-evaluate the team after the Idul Fitri holiday to fix the line-up for ISL. Sriwijaya players won Rp 200 million (US$22,000) prize money and free tickets to mudik, or to return to their hometowns for the holiday. — JP
