AKARTA: Thousands of dead fish weighing hundreds of kilograms washed ashore along Marina and Karnaval beaches in Ancol amusement park on Jakarta Bay, the North Jakarta Environment Management Agency said Friday.
The agency has not determined the cause of the death, but assured it was not a result of chemical poisoning.
“The fish probably died due to lack of oxygen caused by rainfall that pours murky water into the estuary,” the North Jakarta agency’s chief Hotman Silaen said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Hotman said the agency had deployed 15 officials to look into the case. — JP
