JAKARTA: Switzerland and Austria have offered Jakarta a flood-free transportation system, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said
AKARTA: Switzerland and Austria have offered Jakarta a flood-free transportation system, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said.
“The two countries, through their ambassadors, offered us a flood-free transportation service which is operated by the Doppelmayr company [located on the border between Switzerland and Austria],” Fauzi said Friday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
“The system transports passengers and goods by a hanging wire, just like a gondola system,” he said.
This hanging transportation system is ideal for use as a feeder for several other modes of transportation, Fauzi added.
“It is electrically operated, and therefore won’t cause pollution. Installation is easy and cheap,” he said.
“I don’t know whether we will use the system to tackle Jakarta’s notorious traffic congestion. We must assess it first.” — JP
