JAKARTA: Indonesia and Saudi Arabia agreed Tuesday to form a Senior Officer Meeting on Indonesians working in the latter’s country
AKARTA: Indonesia and Saudi Arabia agreed Tuesday to form a Senior Officer Meeting on Indonesians working in the latter’s country.
Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said Tuesday in a press release quoted by tempointeraktif.com that he and Saudi Arabia’s Manpower Minister Adil bin M. Fateh met and agreed to improve the protection of Indonesian workers following the recent torture and murder cases of Indonesian workers.
“I have asked the Saudi Arabian government to use the cases of [migrant workers] Sumiati and Kikim Komalasari as momentum for both sides to improve protection,” Muhaimin said.
The meeting, which is to be held regularly, will serve as a place where leaders of the countries can discuss issues and solutions related to Indonesian workers. Beside the forum, both countries also agreed to tighten the selection of migrant workers agencies, employers, as well as improve communication access and insurance. — JP
