Rianti Cartwright happy to play Nyi Iteung

Rianti Cartwright: JP/R. Berto Wedhatama

JAKARTA: Actress Rianti Cartwright says she’s happy to star as Nyi Iteung in the comedy Kabayan Jadi Milyuner (Kabayan Becomes A Billionaire).

The actress who played in Indonesia’s 2008 blockbuster movie Ayat-ayat Cinta (Verses of Love), have not been on screen since.

“I’m happy for sure, especially because Kabayan highlights the Sundanese culture. My mother is Sundanese as well,” Rianti said.

Rianti added she found the change of genre from drama to comedy challenging.

“I really enjoyed it and I played [in the movie] with friends. There’s Aming, Tian [Christian Sugiono], Jamie Aditya. So the filming was fun.”

Rianti plays Kabayan’s wife. Presenter Jamie Aditya stars as Kabayan, while actor Didi Petet, who played Kabayan in 1990s, played the role of Abah, Iteung’s father. — JP
