AKARTA: House of Representatives Home Affairs Commission chairman Chairuman Harahap said Thursday that the commission would begin the deliberation of the Yogyakarta special status bill next week despite controversy over the status.
“We will start deliberating the bill by asking the government to present its ideas on the special status,” Chairuman, a lawmaker from the Golkar Party, told journalists on Thursday.
He said the commission had also planned to visit Yogyakarta to talk with several groups of people who represented the region.
“We will ask Sultan Hamengkubuwono X’s opinion regarding this very matter from his perspective as a governor and sultan,” he said.
Chairuman was optimistic that the commission could complete the bill deliberation on time this year. —JP
