JAKARTA: Jakarta Police said Sunday that their operation to keep private vehicles off TransJakarta busway lanes has successfully reduced traffic accidents
AKARTA: Jakarta Police said Sunday that their operation to keep private vehicles off TransJakarta busway lanes has successfully reduced traffic accidents.
Data from the Jakarta Police Traffic Management Center (TMC) showed that in the first three months of 2011 there were seven accidents and one fatality.
In 2010, TMC recorded 81 accidents with eight fatalities. There were 231 accidents with 12 fatalities in 2009.
The police attributed the decline in traffic accidents along busway lanes to “Operasi Simpatik Jaya”, a program devised to raise public awareness about not traveling in busway lanes.
“During the operation we tried to raise awareness among motorists about the dangers of driving in busway lanes, and I think motorists have started to grasp the idea,” an official from the TMC, Comr. Herman, said Sunday, as quoted by tribunnews.com. — JP
