AKARTA: UNESCO is set to officially list the Saman Dance from Aceh as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November.
“The Saman Dance will be announced as intangible world cultural heritage by UNESCO on November 19, 2011,” I Gde Pitana, Indonesian Culture and Tourism Ministry cultural and tourism resources agency head, said Monday in Jakarta as quoted by Antara.
He said the announcement would be made at a ceremony in Bali.
Pitana said UNESCO had listed 890 objects as world cultural, and natural and mixed cultural heritages.
Indonesia has made 11 in the list, consisting of four natural, three cultural and four non-material cultural heritage items. Among them are wayang (shadow puppets), kris (traditional dagger), batik and angklung (a Sundanese bamboo musical instrument). — JP
