Parking attendants to be relocated

J

AKARTA: The Jakarta Transportation Agency will relocate dozens of parking attendants from Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk in West Jakarta before imposing on-street parking bans there later this month.

Agency chief Udar Pristono said the city had relocated 80 parking attendants to city-owned parking areas on Jl. Mayestik in South Jakarta and Jl. Jaksa in Central Jakarta.

“We have done this before, so I believe there won’t be any problem,” Pristono said.

Jakarta has 196 on-street parking attendants on register for Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk, but dozens of illegal attendants operate freely as well.

After repeated delays, the city decided that on-street parking on two of the most crowded streets in Jakarta would be phased out starting June 20. — JP
