AKARTA: Inflation in Jakarta rose 0.61 percent in June, on the back of an increase in rice prices, for an aggregate increase of 1.94 percent in the first half of 2011, according to the local office of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
“The inflation rate is still normal. We can see that the city is having healthy and controlled economic growth,” local BPS chief Agus Suherman said.
Agus said that food prices increased an average of 2.63 percent last month, with rice registering the highest increase at 0.258 percent.
The office also recorded an increase in the average prices of several key commodities: health supplies; clothing; ready-to-serve foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco; transportation, communications and financial services; housing, clean water, electricity, and gas and fuel.
