ue to the overwhelming requests from art lovers—especially the entertaining performing arts—who want to see Guruh Sukarno Putra’s shows back on the stage, Kinarya GSP joined hands with Djarum Apresiasi Budaya (Djarum Culture Appreciation) to fulfill the hopes of Guruh Sukarno Putra’s fans. This massive musical performance will mark the 40th anniversary of Guruh’s contribution to the performing arts in Indonesia.
Guruh Sukarno Putra has traversed four decades in his contribution to art and culture, covering the disciplines of music, dance, painting and batik.
“We want to heal people’s longing for songs, music and dance in a performance that filled with dedication for nationalism, but is still entertaining. The musical performance themed Beta Cinta Indonesia (I love Indonesia) will feature footage from several performances that have been presented earlier. Lagu Janger (Janger Song), Smaradhana and Melati Suci (Sacred Jasmine), complete with the dancing, that used to be so memorable in the hearts of the audience, presented with a new modern composition,” Guruh said.
“Lasting about 120 minutes, the performance, with music rearranged by Erwin Gutawa also features famous artists and selected dancers, and is supported by modern stage techniques,” he added.
“We hope that this performance will be not only entertaining, but also remind us of Indonesia’s rich culture and make the artists involved and the audience proud and realize, that Indonesian performances are no less than foreign countries,” said Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation program director Renitasari.
Guruh’s masterpieces began with Pergelaran Karya Cipta Guruh Sukarno Putra I (Guruh Sukarno Putra Masterpiece Performance I) in 1979, followed by Untukmu Indonesiaku (For You Indonesia) in 1980, Cinta Indonesia (Love Indonesia) in 1984, Gilang Indonesia Gemilang (Gilang Indonesia Wonderful) in 1986, Jak Jak Jak Jakarta in 1988, Legong Surapati in 1998, Konser 100 Tahun Bung Karno (100 Years Bung Karno Concert) in 2001, Sri Panggung in 2002, Lelaki Super (Super Male) in 2003 and Mahadaya Cinta in 2005.
Guruh has successfully delivered a memorable impression on the crowds and fellow performers in each and every performance he has produced. His contribution in Indonesian fashion has also been a remarkable feat. The mixture of western-influenced Moulin-rouge attire mixed with the traditional kebaya has been often seen in art performances throughout the country.
He has a distinctive mission in nurturing a sense of nationalism among Indonesian youth. His songs are filled with spirit of nationalism. He often encourages members of the Swore Maharddhika to wear national attire on every occasion.
With his musical skill and deep understanding of Indonesian art and culture, Guruh has presented and always presents modern-contemporary art without forgetting his love for the nation.
