EST MANGGARAI: Labuan Bajo, the capital of West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is in dire need of a decent hospital, says Regent Agustinus Ch Dula.
Although Labuan Bajo is a tourist destination and gateway to the Komodo National Park, it has only one community health center (Puskesmas).
If Komodo becomes one the New7Wonders of the World, the winners of which will be announced on Friday, a hospital would be urgently needed as more tourists would visit the region, Agustinus said.
“What if tourists get sick while visiting here? We cannot treat them at the Puskesmas because of its limited capacity,” Agustinus said.
Currently, he said, very ill people or those badly injured in road accidents were sent to a general hospital in Ruteng or flown to neighboring Bali.
