AKARTA: The Jakarta High Court rejected an appeal by former National Police chief detective Susno Duadji and maintained his 3.5 year prison sentence and the terms of his fine.

Court spokesman Ahmad Sobari said Friday in Jakarta that the verdict was issued on Wednesday at a hearing presided over by Judge Roosdarmani.

Susno earlier filed the appeal after the South Jakarta District Court sentenced him in March to 3.5 years in prison and ordered him to pay Rp 200 million (US$22,200) in fines or serve an additional four months in prison.

Susno was found guilty of accepting Rp 500 million in bribes from fisheries firm PT Salma Arowana Lestari and of embezzling security funds that were earmarked for the 2008 West Java gubernatorial election while serving as chief detective with the National Police.

He was also ordered to return the Rp 4 billion he has been accused of stealing, tempointeraktif.com reported.
