AKARTA: Democratic Party executive board deputy chief Marzuki Alie insisted that the high-profile wedding of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s second son, Edhie Baskoro, was fairly modest and should not be fussed over.
“I saw it as very humble. There were only chairs and perhaps a few rented items. For the level of a president, it was very modest,” he said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Marzuki, what made the wedding seem extravagant was the abundance of well-known guests that attended. Inviting important figures was a necessity for any occasion held by the President, he said.
The House of Representatives’ speaker went on to question the media’s eagerness to scrutinize the wedding.
“What are you doing reporting on the President? There are many other issues such as poverty and so on,” he said.
