AKARTA: The Jakarta administration is planning to provide special places for women on Transjakarta buses in a bid to provide safety and comfort for passengers on the bus rapid transit system.
Transjakarta Management Authority (BLU) head Muhammad Akbar said on Wednesday that they had begun a trial separation of men and women on the buses. “We are holding a number of trials to test the water. In the separation, female passengers will have the rear section of the bus to themselves,” Akbar said.
Akbar said the measure was expected to reduce sexual abuse cases on Transjakarta. BLU recorded a total of eight cases from January to November this year, increasing from four last year.
Last year, state railway operator PT KAI, launched special women-only cars in each commuter train running on the Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) routes.
