fter successfully dressing American pop icon Lady Gaga, the much-talked about young Indonesian designer Tex Saverio continues to forge his path in haute couture.

His name first came up in the fashion scene and drew fashionistas’ attention when he first staged his haute couture collection of “La Glacon” at Dewi Fashion Knights last year as part of the Jakarta Fashion Week event.

Tex’s edgy yet gilded creations awed fashion lovers, making him the talk of the town and some even considered his designs reminiscent of those by the late British designer Alexander McQueen.

His reputation soared when his black tulle gown, embroidered with silk organdy and taffeta embellishments, was donned by Lady Gaga, widely known for her eye-popping fashion sense, in a glossy fashion magazine in May.

The 27-year-old, who quit high school to pursue his dream of becoming a couture designer before later studying fashion at the Bunka School of Fashion in Jakarta, loves experimenting with whimsical yet modern striking details made from unique and different materials.

This year, Tex had his chance to present his latest collection for Dewi Fashion Knights at the 2012 Jakarta Fashion Week, sharing the stage with other renowned designers, such as Auguste Soesastro, Sally Koeswanto, Sapto Djojokartiko and Sebastian Gunawan.

At a time when more and more local designers are choosing to embrace ready-to-wear productions, Tex remains audacious in sticking to his style of bringing highly-crafted creations in a super elegant theatrical parade called “The Revelation”, which told a story of the battle between good and evil, the light and the dark.

Taking part for the second consecutive year in the annual show, organized by lifestyle magazine Dewi, Tex no longer focuses his designs on voluminous pieces.

He is now attempting to take his skills of creativity and technique to a whole new level, taking traditional crafts into an area that is totally fresh, even going so far as to change the purpose of the craft itself.

This time around, he went all gold, toying with intricate detailing and various materials, and by pairing soft fabrics with hard pieces.

Carved ornaments, such as the feature of angels and floral accents which we usually see for home decorating, adorned the wearers from head to toe, from headpieces to chunky platform heels.

As towering models strutted their way along the runway, it seemed like fashion lovers were carried on a journey into the past, when warriors fought for victory on the battlefield.

Soldiers’ accoutrements, which pretty much reflected a macho effect, such as super long cloaks and armor, appeared on the runway where they were stunningly merged with the femininity of mermaid-tail dresses.

Through his latest collection, Tex said, he tried to provoke all elements in the fashion scene, transforming
fashion into something that not only achieves commercial success but also combines art and imagination to become one.

His avant-garde designs closed the fashion show with style, once again, and to enthusiastic applause from fashionistas.
