AKARTA: Bekasi Metropolitan Police have arrested seven people, including a doctor, in connection with alleged human trafficking.
Bekasi Police detective chief Comr. Dedy Murti Haryadi said that five of the suspects were arrested in East Bekasi, where they reportedly sold newborns.
Police in Senen, Central Jakarta, later arrested two more people suspected of being connected to the Bekasi human trafficking ring.
Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Priyo Widyanto said that investigators had also arrested parents who offered their newborn to the trafficking ring.
“The couple is not yet married and they gave the baby up for adoption,” Priyo said.
One of suspects in the case, identified as M, was a doctor.
