n allegedly depressed police officer reportedly went on a rampage on Sunday in which he killed his own father and injured others, in Klaten, Central Java.
The perpetrator was identified as Marsono, the deputy chief of Jatinom Police station in Klaten. He had held the post for one year.
It was reported that Marsono killed his own father, Yoto Wiratmo, 90, at Maryono’s house. There was no information on how Marsono killed his father, or how he injured the other victims.
Marsono was taken to a mental hospital after the incident.
Residents in the neighborhood said they had suspected that Marsono suffered from a mental illness. Some said that Marsono had gone on rampages before and that he had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Klaten last year.
Yoto lived in Krajan village, Jatinom district, with two of his five children.
Based on information gathered during Yoto’s funeral, Marsono went berserk at his office on Sunday at 6 p.m., leaving windows broken. He was later brought home to Glagah village, Jatinom.
Learning about his son’s reported relapse, Yoto immediately went to his son’s house in the hopes that he could calm him down. In the end, it was Marsono who would allegedly silence Yoto.
Neighbors looked generally reserved when asked about the incident. Neighborhood chief Padi Raharjo said that Yoto had died from an illness.
“He was old. It’s reasonable that he died from old age,” he said.
Jatinom Police station chief Rukani said that Yoto’s death was an accident.
“The death of Pak Yoto was not intentional,” he said. Maryoto was taken to the city’s psychiatric hospital.
A witness said that Yoto had not complained about any health problems when he had visited his second son of six children.
The witness said he had heard the news about Yoto’s death early on Monday.
