e’s got the jazz and the talent to shake the industry with his unique voice.
Being a solo singer is just a weapon of choice to be heard according to Tulus, a new starlet from West Java capital Bandung. On a full time status, he is learning how to be a good architect, but in between, however, he manages to sing –at a good way of singing the songs he loves the most.
His debut album Music by Tulus has just released a few weeks ago. He came out of nowhere and delivered a series of original songs which he composed and grew, such as love by forever love to Indonesian legends like Chrisye or Rinto Harahap.
“I wrote batch of songs since five years ago but these last two years has been quite intense for me,” says Tulus.
“As an architecture student, sometimes it won’t give you more abstract ways to express yourself because you’ll be facing one on one with dogma and technical rules. I turned to music as alternatives and I found spaces to tell people my stories.”
He continues, “Can you imagine? Within a few minutes we can tell people anything; stories that happened in the past years before, happiness or even culminated complaints that have been around for months. It’s a packed package, what can be more fun than that?”
A cliché story comes following Tulus who writes songs about life on a grass root level. In a way, he can be so cynical in words he arranges them.
“It is all what I hear, what I feel and what I see; either it’s my own story or anybody else’s story,” he says.
Music by Tulus consists of 10 jazzy songs which will be beautiful if enjoyed in a mixture of grand performance and slow breeze on light sun’s guidance.
Although always performing these songs with his band, Tulus doesn’t want to stand in a band and take simple role as the front man.
“I was once being a band member but it didn’t work well. Become a solo singer maybe make things easier as I can set my target and time to pursue my musical career,” he says.
Now, after the debut album released, he’s setting a new goal for the upcoming uncertain future.
“Basically, singing is a fun thing to do for me. I want to know, is any other people can feel the same fun when they hear me sing. The expectation is simple. I want my music to be heard as widely as it possible.”
