Boy bands to entertain fans in Jakarta

The show, titled “One Night One Stage” will be held at the Mata Elang International Stadium in Ancol, North Jakarta. The Jakarta concert will be part of a world tour.
Jakarta will be the first city in Asia to host the bands after they wrap their concert in Perth, Australia, on May 29.
The show will mark NKOTB’s second performance in the country after they caused hysterics at their first show in 1992. For the Backstreet Boys, it will be their first gig in Indonesia.
“Hello, Jakarta! It’s been a long time. Jakarta is one of my favorite places. You’ve been good to me. See you on June 1,” said Joey McIntyre, the youngest member of NKOTB, in footage shown by the concert promoter during a press conference on Thursday.
Marcel Permadhi, account director of promoter Berlian Entertainment, said 3,000 pre-sale tickets for the show made available online via www.rajakarcis.com on Sept. 23, 2011, sold out within seven minutes.
NKOTB was formed in Boston in 1986 by songwriter and record producer Maurice Starr, who had previously gained success with New Edition. The band shot to fame and had a number of hits, including “Please Don’t Go Girl”, “You Got It (the Right Stuff)”, “Hangin’ Tough”, “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)”, “Step by Step” and “Tonight”.
The popularity of the group —consisting of Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre and brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight — declined in the early 1990s due to lip-syncing allegations.
The band separated in 1994 and the members attempted solo careers. Two members of the band – Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight – enjoyed brief success through their singles “Stay the Same” and “Give it To You” respectively.
NKOTB reunited in 2008 and launched a comeback record titled The Block before teaming up with the Backstreet Boys to release the album NKOTBSB in 2011.
The Backstreet Boys, comprised of A.J. McLean , Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson, arrived on the scene in the late 1990s, taking NKOTB’s place in the boy band scene and cementing their reputation in the teen pop world.
With assistant producer Lou Pearlman, the group began their career in 1993 in Orlando, Florida, inciting a frenzy all over the world with singles like “Quit Playing Games With My Heart”, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”, “As Long As You Love Me”, “Larger Than Life” and “I Want It That Way”.
After a four-year break they returned with the albums Never Gone (2005), Unbreakable (2007) and This Is Us (2009). Kevin Richardson, however, left the Backstreet Boys in 2006 to pursue a solo career.
NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys first teamed up in 2010 during a concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York where they performed “I Want It That Way”, followed with another collaboration at the 2010 American Music Awards.
Jakarta fans who didn’t get a chance to purchase tickets in September will get another chance this Saturday, when more than 3,000 tickets will be available for sale at The Oval Plaza in Epicentrum Walk in South Jakarta’s Kuningan starting at 10 a.m.
“We are preparing 10,000 tickets in total. After selling thousands more tickets offline on Saturday, we will sell the remaining tickets online in a bid to give fans who live outside Jakarta [the opportunity] to get tickets too,” said Marcel.
As to the procedure for purchasing tickets, upon arrival at the entrance gate every fan will be given a number in order to buy tickets, which range in cost from Rp 950,000 (US$103) for festival, Rp 1,250,000 for gold, Rp 2,000,000 for platinum and Rp 3,000,000 for VIP seats.
A maximum of four tickets per person may be purchased, and payment may be made in cash or with a BCA or Mandiri debit card or a Visa or Mastercard credit card.
After paying each person will get a voucher that can be exchanged for an original ticket on May 30 and 31 at rajakarcis.com.
