ost Bahrain humiliated Indonesia in the worst defeat in the latter soccer team’s history with a 10-0 wipe-out in a 2014 World Cup qualifying match in Manama on Wednesday.

Indonesia started their dismal performance with goalkeeper Samsidar being handed a red card by the referee after fouling Ismael Abdullatif in the penalty box in the third minute. Ismael successfully converted the penalty.

Indonesia’s coach Aji Santoso, who recently took over from Rahmad Darmawan, had to replace Samsidar with substitute goalie Andi Muhammad Guntur and withdraw midfielder Slamet Nurcahyo.

Playing with only 10 men, it was difficult for the Indonesians to fend off the Bahraini offensive and in the 15th minute Mohamed Tayeb managed to score a second goal.

Ferdinand Sinaga almost scored a goal in the 21st minute but Bahrain’s goalie Sayed Mohammed Jaffer blocked his shot. The Bahraini side gained a second penalty shot after Indonesia’s naturalized player Diego Michiels fouled Abdullatif but Andi managed to keep the ball out.

Bahrain’s third penalty shot was converted into a goal in the 33rd minute after Tayeb was poorly tackled by Abdul Rahman. Mahmood Abdulrahman converted the penalty for a 3-0 lead.

Abdulrahman headed in a cross from Abdullah Omar in the 42nd minute, thus ending the first half with a 4-0 lead.

Bahrain stepped up its offensive in the second half with another goal in the 60th minute from Tayeb and yet another three minutes later from Sayed Dhiya for a 6-0 lead.

Tayeb made it a hat trick several minutes later, converting a pass from Salman Isa while Abdullatif directed the ball into the net in the 71st minute further extending the lead to 8-0.

With nine minutes left of normal time, Bahrain again pounced as Dhiya took advantage of a pass from Waleed Al Hayam.

Dhiya scored the final goal in stoppage time completing Bahrain’s no-consequence 10-0 victory as both teams were eliminated from the race to Brazil in Group E.

Qatar and Iran drew 2-2 to secure their World Cup sports.
