AKARTA: Air Asia Philippine Patriots’ forward John Aldrech Ramos hit a three-point shot with 43 seconds left on the clock to help the team defeat the Indonesia Warriors 72-68 in their ASEAN Basketball League game on Saturday in Jakarta.
This was the third straight time the Warriors lost by a 4 point deficit or less.
Patriots Anthony Johnson led all scoring with 24 points while teammates Ramos had 12 points and Nakiea Miller added a double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds.
It was a tough night for last year’s best local player Mario Wuysang, who finished 1 for 13 from the field. Jonathan Smith was fired up early but couldn’t carry his performance to the second half. Smith scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half. Steven Thomas added a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Warriors.
The Warriors were down only 62-63 with 1:21 left after Steven Thomas hit a hook shot but the Warriors forgot about Ramos, who was standing by himself on the three-point line. The 23-year-old pulled up with no hesitation and made the important shot. Warriors’ shooter Amin Prihantono almost helped his team pull a comeback after hitting a three-point shot and getting fouled by Francis “Kiko”Adriano.
Unfortunately, Prihantono was unable to complete the four-point play and the Warriors found themselves down 68-71 with 10 seconds left. The Warriors subsequently suffered their seventh loss of the season.
The Warriors are now on a three-game losing streak as they will travel to Bangkok on Wednesday to play against Chang Thailand Slammers. The Patriots will play against the Saigon Heat on the same day at the Tan Binh Stadium in Vietnam.
