AKARTA: The committee selecting new commissioners for the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) says 120 candidates have passed the second selection round. Two-hundred-seventy-five of 373 applicants passed the first round considerations.
Among those who will advance to the third round are Airlangga University sociologist Dede Oetomo, Jakarta State University (UNJ) professor Hafid Abbas, human rights activist I Sandyawan Sumardi and transgender activist Yulianus Rettoblaut.
Seven former Komnas HAM commissioners also made the cut: Asep Mulyana, Dedy Askari, Hesti Armiwulan, Johny Nelson, Kabul Supriyadhie, Nur Kholis, Yhodisman Soratha and Yosep Adi Prasetyo.
The selection committee, chaired by Jimly Asshiddiqie, the first chief of the Constitutional Court, said that its decisions had been made impartially, objectively and transparently.
The committee is seeking public comment on the remaining 120 candidates.
