ead of Jakarta Public Works Agency Ery Basworo said on Sunday that his office cleaned out garbage that was clogging four city flood gates each day, the total weight of which amounted to 70 tons.
“We have deployed 10 trucks to move the garbage from the flood gates to the dump every day. Each truck has the load capacity of seven tons,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He said that at least two trucks carried the garbage from Manggarai sluice in Central Jakarta every day, another three from Pesing Kaliangke sluice in West Jakarta, three from Perintis sluice in North Jakarta and another two from Pluit sluice, also in North Jakarta.
Ery said that as the water debit increased during rainy season, more garbage would be accumulated and would become stuck at the flood gates.
