he authorities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have foiled two attempts at smuggling a combined total of 934 grams of crystal methamphetamine and have arrested a 29-year-old Indonesian citizen.
Customs and Excise Office chief at the airport, Oza Olavia, said on Wednesday that on Dec. 13 the officers found 562 grams of crystal meth hidden in 10 sets of motorcycle handlebars sent in a package from Bangladesh to an address in Subang, West Java. Together with agents from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) the officers arrested the recipient identified only as DI.
On the next day, officers removed 372 grams of crystal meth from inside the straps of a woman’s bag sent by courier from Bangkok to a man identified only as AG in Magelang, Central Java. “When the officers arrived at the recipient’s address, the man had absconded. Perhaps he realized the situation,” Oza said.
BNN investigator Comr. Renny Puspita said the agency had identified three suspects in the second case, a foreign national and two Indonesians. “We are trailing them now,” she said.
