JAKARTA: City-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya said it had prepared more than 4,000 kiosks in five municipalities in Jakarta to keep street vendors in order
AKARTA: City-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya said it had prepared more than 4,000 kiosks in five municipalities in Jakarta to keep street vendors in order.
As reported by tempo.co, company spokesman Agus Lamun said on Monday that vendors who moved to the designated markets would be given free rent for the first six months. “They will only need to pay utility bills.”
The markets that could accommodate the vendors include Petojo Ilir Market in Central Jakarta, Pademangan Timur Market in North Jakarta, Tebet Timur and Kebayoran Lama markets in South Jakarta and Jembatan Lima Market in West Jakarta. “We have informed the Indonesian Street Vendors Association. However, we know that some vendors will resist as they fear that they’ll lose customers,” he said.
