National scene: Infamous lawyer mulls presidential bid

AKARTA: Outspoken attorney Farhat Abbas says he wants to run for president in 2014.

Farhat declared his intention on Sunday on Twitter.

“My voice is the truth, and this is my attempt to heal the country from the diseases of corruption, injustice and the economic gap. I am convinced that political parties will support my bid,” Farhat said.

Farhat announcement comes soon after he made a racist statement about Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.

When commenting on Ahok’s statement on the special license plate numbers given to him and Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Farhat said on Twitter: “Whatever the license plate, [Ahok is] still Chinese!”
