ne of Indonesia’s most-renowned dangdut singer-songwriters, A. Rafiq, died on Saturday at the Medistra Hospital in Jakarta as a result of diabetes and heart disease, tribunnews.com reported.
He was 64.
The artist was famous for his hit song “Pandangan Pertama” (First Sight), which was released in 1976. The song was a huge success for a second time following a cover version in 2002.
The singer was well known for his Elvis Presley-inspired stage costume and hip-gyrations. Rafiq, along with other dangdut legends Rhoma Irama and Elvy Sukaesih, were the three most popular Indonesian singers during the 1970s.
