ONTIANAK: The Pontianak administration in West Kalimantan has renewed its partnership with Oasen water company from the Netherlands by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to repair water leaks at the Tirta Khatulistiwa water company (PDAM).
Pontianak Mayor Sutarmidji, Tirta Katulistiwa director Ismail and Oasen director Jeroen Schmaal signed the MoU at the mayor’s office on Monday.
In the agreement, Oasen will provide technical support to reduce water leaks in the company’s pipe network.
“The leakage level is around 25 percent. I hope that the leakage can be reduced between 11 and 20 percent,” said Sutarmidji, adding that the leakage was caused by old pipes and water theft.
He said that 1 percent of the leakage was worth Rp 700 million (US$72,000). The administration has sent five engineers to take part in training at Oasen. Sutarmidji said the company had been cooperating with Oasen for nine years.
