The police have arrested three men and confiscated 2,900 ecstasy pills and 500 grams of crystal methamphetamine in a series of raids.

Gambir Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Tatan Dirsan said on Thursday that the suspects belonged to a big drug syndicate judging by the large amount of evidence found in their possession. The drugs were worth a total of Rp 4 billion (US$408,000).

"We're still tracking down their supplier," he told The Jakarta Post.

The police arrested SI near Tanah Abang station in Central Jakarta on May 16 when he was attempting to make a sale. The police found 1,000 ecstasy pills in the compartment under his motorcycle seat. From information gathered from SI, the police arrested HR on May 17 at his apartment in Tambora, West Jakarta, and found 1,900 ecstasy pills in the drawer of his computer desk.

Further investigation led the police to NJ, allegedly a crystal meth dealer. He was arrested at his house in Sunter, North Jakarta, as he was about to make a deal.

"During the arrest on May 18, NJ had concealed a packet of crystal meth in his left armpit. A search later found four big packets of the drug in a laptop box inside a wardrobe," Tatan said. The total amount of crystal meth found was 500 grams.

Tatan said the suspects had been charged under Article 114 of the Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum six years' imprisonment and a Rp 10 billion fine.
