he Palembang Court panel of judges dishonorably discharged five of the 10 soldiers involved in the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) arson attack on the local police station.
The five discharged soldiers are Sgt. Major Mutjobah Fathoni who was sentenced to two years in prison, First Sgt. Irawan who got 16 months in prison, Chief Pvt. Damianus Daga who amount to 18 months in prison, First Cpl. Eriyadi who amount to four years in prison and First Pvt. Febrian Teban who got two years in prison.
The verdict was similar to the prosecutor's request to imprison and discharge the soldiers.
Chief judge Lt. Col. Reki Irene said on Tuesday that Fathoni was proven guilty of violating criminal code article 160. He also said that Irawan and Damianus were proven guilty of violating criminal code article 170, paragraph 1, relating to article 2 and 3.
In a separate court session, chief judge Lt. Col. Sutrisno Setio Utomo said that Eriyadi and Febrian were proven guilty of violating criminal code article 187, paragraph 2, article 170, paragraph 1, and article 406, paragraph 1.
The remaining five soldiers, Chief Pvt. Yoyok Adriyanto who was sentenced to six months in prison, Chief Pvt. Sarbini Abdullah who was sentenced to 10 months in prison, First Pvt. Anggit Yusuf Saputra who was sentenced to eight months in prison, and Second Pvt. Dian Catur Wijaya who was sentenced to three months in prison.
They were not discharged from service. However, they were proven guilty of violating criminal code article 170, paragraph 1, and also article 406, paragraph 1.
Earlier in March, the soldiers had stormed and set fire to the OKU Police headquarters. As a result, four police officers were seriously injured and a janitor died.
The incident began with a protest at the police headquarters by soldiers who were demanding severe punishment for a traffic policeman, Brig Wijaya, who had shot a soldier, First Pvt. Heru Oktavianus, over a personal matter. (fan/dic)
