The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has asked the Jakarta administration to build more rehabilitation centers for drug users.

BNN chief Comr. Gen. Anang Iskandar said after meeting with Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo that the city had around 490,000 people who needed treatment, while facilities were lacking.

"We hope the administration is able to plan a rehabilitation center in each municipality," he said at City Hall on Friday.

Anang said Jakarta, the province with the highest number of drug users, had only one rehabilitation center at the Duren Sawit regional general hospital (RSUD) in East Jakarta.

Responding to the request, Jokowi said he fully supported the plan. "But I cannot promise anything now as we will study the data first."

Jokowi said he also agreed with the idea of building the centers adjacent to hospitals.
