entral Java police launched the Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) on Saturday, which can provide information to avoid traffic jams.
National Police's head of traffic management, Insp.Gen.Puji Hartanto, said the RTMC in Semarang, Central Java, would give road users the most up to date traffic information. Closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) should be routinely moved to areas with highest traffic congestions.
'Traffic officers will be monitoring the latest situation and move the CCTVs where they are most needed,' said Puji, adding that the information would be accurate and up-to-date.
He said in the next few years, the RTMC would become a traffic control center.
Central Java Police director of traffic, Sr.Comr. Istu Hari Winarto, said the RTMC could also support officials monitoring security and safety.
'Its integrated system can help monitoring the policing of public order events,' he said. (asw/ebf)
