nformation about a raid by the Jakarta Public Order Agency on transvestites and prostitutes in Taman Lawang, Central Jakarta, may have been leaked, resulting in only a few suspects being apprehended.
The raid was conducted along Jl. Latuharhari, Jl. Sumenep and around the Taman Lawang Park in Central Jakarta at the break of dawn
on Wednesday. Thirty-five public order officers were deployed to arrest transvestites and prostitutes operating openly in the area.
The officers went undercover as customers. They drove around in a car to feign soliciting transvestites or prostitutes on Jl. Sabang.
However, the officers only apprehended six transvestites and two prostitutes.
Menteng Public Order Agency head Sadikin said as quoted by kompas.com that information about the raid, which was confidential, may have been leaked.
"Therefore, only a few [transvestites and prostitutes] were operating in the Taman Lawang area at the time," Sadikin said.
