he Jakarta Police in cooperation with the NationalNarcotics Agency (BNN) has launched a program to provide free treatment to drug addicts from June1 to 30.
The service is part of activities organized to observe the National Police's 67th anniversary and in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said he expected drug addicts to take the advantage of the program. He said those willing to join the program would be housed at the BNN rehabilitation center in Lido, Sukabumi, West Java.
'For those who are in great desperation dealing with drugs and narcotics, this is the time. Anyone interested can come to BNN or to a nearby police office,' he said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday
According to BNN last year data there were 3.8 million drug users. However, many believe the actual figure could be double, since drug distribution is widespread in almost every corner of the country.(hrl/dic)
