British oil worker has been kidnapped by unidentified armed men while on hisway home with his driver in Peureulak, East Aceh, on Tuesday, a police official has said.

The worker, identified as Malcolm Primrose, 61, works as senior drilling supervisor for PT Medco E&P Malaka oil company.

East Aceh Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Muhajir said that according to the driver, identified as Dania, they had left the drilling site when a group of armed men suddenly appeared, fired their guns and ordered them to stop.

The armed men then tied Dania up and took Primrose away with them.

'€œRight now police personnel with the assistance of the military are combing the area, looking for clues as to where the armed men might have taken their captive,'€ he said on Wednesday.

The rescue mission was being directly supervised by Aceh Police chief Insp. Gen. Herman Effendy. Herman reportedly rushed to the scene to monitor the situation. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. (hrl/dic)
