T

he City Police have announced that drug users in thecity will get free rehabilitation treatment if they report their addiction thismonth.

Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Thursday that the police in cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) had started a program to help drug users to cure their addiction.

'We have launched the program in observance of the National Police's anniversary that falls every July 1,' Rikwanto said, adding that registration for the program runs from June 1 through June 30.

He added that drug users should not be afraid to register with the police, because they would not interrogate them about how they got the drugs or whether they were linked to drug dealers or not.

'We will treat them as patients, not suspects of crime,' he said.

According to Rikwanto, at least 23 drug users have registered with the police.

'The drug users will be rehabilitated at the BNN rehabilitation center in Lido, Sukabumi, West Java, or at hospitals in Jakarta,' he said.

Rikwanto said that the doctors who handled drug users' rehabilitation would determine the length of time for medication, and after they were cured, the police would take them back to their family.
