Fat bank account officer hospitalized in Papua

A

dj. First Insp. Labora Sitorus, a police officer who was in the spotlight recently for a suspiciously fat bank account, is currently undergoing treatment at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Jayapura due to an arthritic complication.

Family representative, Rev. Charles Simaremare, said the family hoped the police would change Labora'€™s detention status to enable him to receive medical treatment from a specialist hospital.

He added that because the police had frozen Labora'€™s bank assets, 300 employees had not yet received their salaries.

Labora was charged with illegal logging, hoarding fuel and money laundering after the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) discovered his surprisingly large bank balance, which from 2007-2012 amounted to Rp 1.5 trillion (US$1.5 billion).

The PPATK decided the account'€™s financial transaction did not fit Labora'€™s job as a police officer and reported the case to the Papua Police.
